My First Tattoo

As you or may not have read my previous post a couple of months back, I was speculating whether to get a tattoo or not. I decided to finally go through with it...despite my mum being totally against it, and my dad not so keen either (even though i'm pretty sure, secretly, he wants one too). I'm honestly so chuffed with it and was quite surprised at how un-painful it was considering I got mine on my ribs area, which is said to be the most painful. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the most painful) i'd say 5 for mine. It did help the fact the tattoo artist was very nice, chatty and also played heavy rock music in the background which distracted me from the pain on my ribs...and focused my attention towards the pain in my ears...

I went for a pretty simple first tattoo after a lot of Googling, Tumblring, deciding and deliberating. I wanted words that would be eternally meaningful to me. I get asked a lot (like A LOT) if I chose Let it Be after the Beatles song and as much as I do love the Beatles, I did not get my tattoo after their famous song, I'm not that big a fan. Whilst reading 'A New Earth' by Eckhart Tolle, there was a passage about Dalai Lama, who explained the importance of letting things in life just be. I couldn't think of anything better - it means not worrying about the future or regretting events from your past - it's being completely in the present and letting things happen as they happen. Anyway, enough of that hippy crap - that's my reason! I combined it with an image of a swallow bird because it signifies freedom, care and loyalty - qualities I think go hand in hand with letting it be. I'm so chuffed with the design and even more with how it looks in real is a photo to show you:

If you're considering a tattoo, I hope this was a helpful insight into my own experience!
